What can Nobel Prize winners teach marketers about AI?

CCR's Christine recently attended the Nobel Prize Outreach and Royal Society dialogue, The Future of Science with AI, featuring Nobel Prize laureates Demis Hassabis and Paul Nurse.

The discussion focused on the future of science, but many of the themes felt strikingly relevant to the transformation challenges facing marketing leaders today.
Four ideas in particular stood out.
1. Asking questions may become more valuable than finding answers
One theme repeated throughout the discussion was that AI should create more space for human thinking, not less.
As AI takes on more execution and information gathering, our value increasingly comes from asking better questions, challenging assumptions and thinking creatively about problems.
2. Beware the "seduction of data gathering"
One of the most memorable observations was that organisations can become obsessed with collecting data simply because they can.
The challenge isn't gathering more information. It's creating order, context and purpose from the vast amounts we already have.
Marketing teams face exactly the same issue.
3. The future belongs to intelligent agents
The panel discussed how AI is evolving into capable, personalised assistants that can gather information, complete tasks and support decision-making.
For marketers, the opportunity isn't simply automation. It's delegation. As agentic AI matures, routine work can increasingly be handed to intelligent assistants, creating more space for strategy, creativity and growth.
4. AI could help break down silos
A fascinating point was how technology is making interdisciplinary collaboration easier.
In business, the same opportunity exists between marketing, sales, customer experience, analytics and technology teams. AI has the potential to become a common language across functions.
The big takeaway?
The Nobel laureates were discussing scientific discovery, but the message applies equally to business transformation.
AI is not simply another technology upgrade.
It's changing how people discover, decide, create and collaborate.
The organisations that succeed won't necessarily be those with the most AI tools.
They'll be the ones that combine human judgement, creativity and purpose with the growing capabilities of intelligent systems.
We're hearing a common challenge from marketing leaders: the question is no longer what AI is, but where it can deliver genuine value.
If you're unsure where AI fits within your marketing operation, we'd be happy to help.
CCR's free Marketing Health Check explores questions such as:
✓ Is your marketing delivering the results it should?
✓ Where could AI create the greatest impact across your workflows?
✓ Do you have the right foundations, processes and governance in place?
Sometimes the most important step isn't finding the answer.
It's asking the right question.
How is your organisation approaching AI transformation?
